This webinar introduces participants to sport psychology as a field of practice in South Africa.

It covers how athletes are motivated, gives examples of how psychologists who deal with psychology in sport are able to help the athlete.

Furthermore, the module notes some important theories related to the field of sport psychology. Personality factors related to athletes are briefly described. Coaching techniques both individual and team are looked at as this is important in terms of sport psychology.

about Professor Nel

Professor Kathryn Anne Nel  is a Research Associate at the University of Limpopo and a National  Research Foundation Rated Researcher (C2). She is an academic and a registered counselling psychologist with a PhD. Prof Nel has extensive research interests and is still involved in teaching in academe. In 2022 she successfully produced several PhD graduates and still works closely with ex-students. She is still involved in supervision at a Private University in South Africa. Her research interests include Gender and Sexuality, Sport Psychology, Health Psychology, Neuropsychology and Community based research as well as research into aspects of being differently abled. She also has an interest in Industrial/Organisational Psychology as she once chaired a department in that field.
