Description of the course:

The DSM-5 was published on May 182013, superseding the DSM-IV-TR which was published in 2000.

Treatment recommendations, as well as payment by health care providers, are often determined by DSM classifications, so the appearance of a new version has significant practical importance.  Each version of the DSM introduces new disorders, and updates the criteria for existing ones. Some people will lose their diagnosis. In some instances, this could lead to individuals losing access to healthcare benefits they have come to rely on.

In this course clinicians and therapists will learn about Use of the DSM V manual and changes from previous version; the WHODAS (World Health Organisation Disability and Assessment Scale) that has replaced the Axis V Global Assessment of Functioning; Diagnostic Criteria and Codes; outline of the guide’s categorical diagnoses according to a revised chapter organization; Assessment measures; and Cultural formulation.
