This CPD activity is firstly aimed at creating awareness about Harassment and Domestic Violence as psycho-social phenomena that is very common in South African society, in fact to such an extent that the legislator has intervened by promulgating the Protection from Harassment Act and the Domestic Violence Act. The tragic consequences of harassment and domestic violence are reported almost daily in South African media.
It is secondly also aimed at creating awareness about the remedies that the legislation provides victims and how such remedies work by providing victims the opportunity to apply for a protection order at the courts. The third aim is to provide participants the knowledge skills and values in order to assist their patients or clients when they become victims directly or indirectly in obtaining protection orders and to assist their patients or clients hereafter in their further development, growth and the pursuit of wellness after containment of the threat. The sense of containment of the threat of harm may provide calmer waters for intervention and a sense of control.
