Eating Disorders have the highest mortality rate among mental illnesses and are one of the most difficult disorders to treat. Some of the difficulties in treating Eating Disorders is the result of a lack of understanding of the complex issues that contribute to the development and maintenance of the pathological symptoms, and behaviour.
This CPD course reviews the DSM-5 criteria as well as the ICD-10 and ICD-11 criteria for Eating and Feeding disorders. This is followed by a discussion of the risk factors. Different theories, approaches, and therapeutic models of Eating Disorders will be elaborated on. Body image and Body Dysmorphia will also be addressed. Criteria for hospitalization and the burdens of eating disorders will be debated. Several Psychometric tests to measure the risks and severity of Eating Disorders, will also be provided.
