Overview of module content
In this module, you will learn how to interpret some of the drawings and diagrams that you may come across in industry. Some of these diagrams are used informally, while others are more technical with well developed methods or rules. Each diagram has a specific purpose and conventions. At the end of this module, you should be able to identify and interpret several types of diagram.
Unit 1 is an introduction to all the different drawings and diagrams, namely
- Block diagrams
- Plot plans
- Engineering component drawings
- Process flow diagrams
- Organograms
- Venn diagrams
- Decision trees
- Pyramid diagrams
- Mind maps
In Unit 2 you will learn how to identify and interpret a block diagram.
Unit 3 gives more detailed information on how to identify and interpret plot diagrams.
The focus of Unit 4 is on engineering component drawings. Here, you will learn about the purpose of these drawings, how to interpret scale aspects correctly, the different line structures and shading concepts as well as the concept of exploded drawing sections.
Process flow diagrams are explained in Unit 5. This covers the purpose, different line structures and shading concepts as well as labels, symbols and legends.
The last Unit teaches you how and where to find these drawings and diagrams in a work environment.
