Overview of module content

The aim of this module is to provide you as the learner with the necessary information to operate a pendant controlled overhead crane according to the manufactures specification.

The functions and major components of the crane will be discussed and the role each component fulfils in the operational process is listed.  Steps to follow to assess the safety and suitability of the crane and crane components are also listed and discussed.

Checklists are provided that must be used to conduct routine and periodic inspections on the crane and the importance of completing the necessary documentation is emphasised.

The functions of the controls in the operation of the crane are discussed and the procedures are listed that must be adhered to in order to operate the crane according to specific workplace requirements.
